Investigate the Distress Signal

In Shadow Ops, the player is transported to the location of a distress signal to investigate. The location is compromised and all attempts to contain the threat have failed. Shadow Ops is a shooter that has several horror moments throughout. It is not for the faint of heart.

My Role as Game Developer

Shadow Ops started as a demo that was created to showcase the Omni treadmill at tradeshows and other events. The game was developed before I joined Virtuix by a separate game studio. Shadow Ops was initially developed for the Oculus Development Kit 1. As the VR technology changed throughout the years, it was my responsibility to maintain this content and upgrade it for the new technologies. This involved adding hand tracking, updating SDKs, adding HTC Vive support, etc. As I upgraded the tech behind the game so that it could work with new technologies, I also made gameplay improvements to the game based on player feedback. Many players were getting stuck and didn't know where to go, so I updated the level flow to be more intuitive. I also updated many of the combat mechanics and enemy behaviors to be more engaging. Also, with the help of an artist, we updated some of the visuals throughout to give it a more polished look.
